Cambrian Engineering (Cymru) Ltd is a proven leader in the production of top quality steel towers for the on and offshore wind turbine industry.
Founded in 1974 and currently employing 55 people at its manufacturing base at Bangor, Gwynedd, Cambrian has successfully applying a new approach to traditional steel fabrication technology that is at the basis of steel tower production - making it the only company in the UK producing these towers.
With orders rising to 144 in a year, supplying projects in Holland, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Ireland and the USA, Cambrian is in the unique position of providing towers for 10 wind turbine manufacturers.
All stages of production are carried out in-house to contain costs and maintain quality control. The company also fits the platforms, doors, safety equipment, lights, interior ladders and power cables so the towers are ready to erect when they reach their destination. At full production Cambrian can produce four towers per week comprising six to eight sections.
Cambrian also builds the foundation sections. Towers can reach up to 100 metres in height with individual sections weighing up to 50 tonnes. To accommodate the heavier towers for offshore wind farms the company has installed new bending rolls capable of rolling 56mm thick steel plate.
