The Eco Factory on Swansea Enterprise Park boasts a range of sustainability features, including water saving, environmentally friendly building materials, energy saving measures and the use of renewable energy.
From its sustainable building, the company supplies a complete range of natural beauty products to the international market. Some three years ago, the plan to incorporate the wind turbine began in earnest. After 18 months¹ hard searching, grant funding was found.
The turbine - a British Gazelle 20KW turbine from NE England - will produce 50% of the company¹s electricity; taking grant assistance into account, it will pay for itself within six years. With an anticipated working life in excess of 20 years, this makes small-scale turbines a highly attractive option for any company.
The turbine project benefits from a pilot net metering arrangement. Electricity production figures cannot be too precise at the moment as they are based on NOABL wind speed calculations: if anything, the actual figures achieved will be higher than those detailed.
The turbine was erected on 23 June, 2001. On the same day Montagne Jeunesse achieved ISO14001 Environmental Management Systems accreditation. Montagne Jeunesse is aiming to use no fossil fuel at all; they are also looking at photovoltaic systems and ground source heat pumps.
